An Intimate Wedding Weekend in Vieques, Puerto Rico

Jess and Jeff got married on November 19th in Vieques, Puerto Rico. The couple had visited the island before and fell in love with its unique, laid-back charm — so when it came time to plan their wedding, there was no question about where they wanted to be. They wanted something intimate: a few days spent connecting with their closest friends, far from the pressure of a big, formal event.

A Slow Start at Finca Victoria

They booked Finca Victoria, a cozy tropical community where each of their guests had their own small cabin to stay in for the week. Everyone got ready there on the wedding day, and the relaxed pace set the tone for everything that followed — this wedding was never going to be about formality. It was about the people in the room (or, in this case, scattered across a row of cabins in the jungle).

Before the ceremony, Jess and Jeff shared an intimate first look right at the bride’s cabin. It had been raining on and off all day — Puerto Rico is tropical, so passing showers are just part of the territory — but we made the best of it, and the moment turned out just as sweet as they’d hoped.

Ceremony and Reception with a View

The ceremony and reception were hosted at a local homeowner’s property overlooking the water — the first time the space had ever been used for a private event. With its unique charm and sweeping views, it turned out to be the perfect setting for Jess and Jeff’s celebration. The day was built around connection rather than formalities, which gave me the freedom to get comfortable with everyone there and capture a lot of candid, in-the-moment shots of guests genuinely enjoying themselves.

An After Party in Pajamas + Swimsuits

After the reception, everyone headed back to Finca Victoria for the after party, trading formalwear for swimsuits and pajamas to hang out by the pool. Because most of the guests were on the island for several days, the group also made time for a trip to Vieques’s bioluminescent bay — one of the most vibrant places in the world to see the phenomenon, and something the island is especially known for.

Visiting Vieques Thoughtfully

Vieques is a genuinely special place, but it’s also one dealing with real strain from tourism and outside investment. A lot of the money that flows in doesn’t stay with the people who live there, and many locals commute to the main island for work and resources that aren’t as available on Vieques itself. I was incredibly grateful to be part of Jess and Jeff’s day here, and it felt important to be intentional about it too — booking local, eating local, and putting as much of our time and money as possible back into the community that made this wedding possible. A Tropical Celebration to Remember
